Memphis Dawls Sing the National Anthem at Grizzlies Final Home Game
Alright, so I’m sneaking in for a new post…….While I know it isn’t typically the person singing the National Anthem that gets you out to the Fedex Forum, when the Grizzlies play the Orlando Magic tonight you might want to get there early for this….
That’s right…The Memphis Dawls will be singing the National Anthem tonight at the Grizzlies’ final home game! First they impress Jack White, and then the Grizzlies! If things keep going like this for them, we might not be able to see them in small intimate venues like The Cove and Otherlands for much longer!!! The game starts at 7pm, and if you can’t get down to the Grindhouse tonight, then the game will be showing on SportSouth (provided you have cable).
Guitar Wolf and Cheap Time
After you leave the Grizzlies game, head to the Hi-tone (1913 Poplar Ave.) for Japan’s Guitar Wolf!! As mentioned in my last post, I’m not going to be able to make it to this, and I’m super bummed about it, because these guys always put on a crazy show!! If you are a Memphian then you probably already know that their first record Wolf Rock! was the first album released on Goner!! The last time they were here, it was the middle of summer (and we all know how that can go sometimes at the Hi-tone), so if you check them out tonight, I think the climate will be tolerable no matter how many people are there! They’ll be joined by Transistors and Model Citizen. Doors are at 9pm and the cover is $13. The Hi-tone is an 18 and up venue.
After things wrap up at the Hi-tone, head to the Lamplighter (1702 Madison Ave.) for an after party with Cheap Time! The Thursday night Achtung residency will be continuing tonight at the Lamplighter with DJ Crenshaw Mafia (Ex-Cult) at 9:30pm, but Cheap Time will not be going on until after the Guitar Wolf show is over. They are asking for a $3 donation for Cheap Time. The Lamplighter is a 21 and up venue.
The Return of Chinamen
Saturday night (4/28) at Murphy’s (1589 Madison Ave.), it seems at least one band has been confirmed for Gally’s birthday party…and it’s a big one! Chinamen are back from retirement, and will be playing their first show in over a year Saturday night!! I’m not sure if they are taking a cover for this show, or if it is free because it is Gally’s birthday, but I highly suggest this one!! Honestly it’s just good to see these guys back in action!!!
I would also like to remind everyone that Richard James and the Special Riders will be playing a free show Friday night at the Hi-tone with The Pirates!!! This show is also a birthday show. It kicks off at 9:00pm!
Next week….Social Distortion? Dick Dale? Jane’s Addiction? I’m not being cute. All of these bands are really playing in Memphis next week!
