Unfortunately, I got to Murphy’s too late last night to catch The Angel Sluts. When I arrived, Cincinnati, Ohio’s Ampline were in the middle of their set.
Ampline began as an instrumental band, but in recent years have added vocals to their sound. I’m not sure if it’s just because they are a three piece, but they reminded me a lot of early Dinosaur Jr. (think Dinosaur and Green Mind).
Huntsville, Alabama’s Daikaiju were absolutely nuts!!!
Throughout the show, I could not help but be reminded of Daikaiju’s fellow Alabama band Man or Astroman? (who will be playing the Hi-tone on October 13). There were elements of surf and metal in their sound, and the band’s guitarists (Secret-man and Rock-man) worked their way through the crowd encouraging crowd participation.
Also, you have to respect a band that has butt plugs as part of their merchandise.
